Kings Pride

Overview

Kings Pride originated from a Variant plant selected from a long-established buffalo grass lawn in the lower Hunter Valley (NSW). Kings Pride is protected by a PBR (Plant Breeders Rights) and cannot be grown or sold without a licence. This PBR was granted in 2007

The HAL project results for Kings Pride would be considered average. From the HAL report the average Leaf Width is 7.01mm. Kings Pride also has an average leaf length of 21.4mm.

During the HAL Project various tests were conducted for Quality, Colour and Thatch ratings. Kings Pride results for Quality averaged across the test sites had a score of 70 from 100 (1st place score was 72) which placed Kings Pride in the middle of the cultivars reviewed. Kings Pride was also above average in the colour test scoring 67.5 from 100 overall which placed it equal 1st from buffalos reviewed here for colour.

Kings Pride showed normal thatch levels when compared to other varieties, most of the buffalos showed similar levels of thatch only varying slightly by a few %. Kings Pride average thatch levels were only 2% more than Wintergreen couch.

The disease tolerance of Kings Pride was below average, showing that it was one of the worst effected varities affected by "Fusarium" (slow growing black fungus). For full results and images of the disease trial Click Here...

Kings Pride is a good wearing buffalo performing well in most of the tests conducted during the HAL project. with average shade tolerance Kings pride is a good all round buffalo, however Kings Pride was not part of the HAL project for the full duration and no testing on Winter colour, Drought tolerance and other HAL tests was conducted. Information should be checked before you purchase to ensure Kings Pride would suit your situation.

Wear Test

Kings Pride performed second best in this trial, wearing very well and recovering the bare ground after 2 weeks. Kings Pride is a worthy contender if Wear Tolerance is a primary factor for your lawn.
